  • Doulas help bridge the gap of care within our medical system. Doula care is personalized and continuously supportive. Mothers with doula support are more likely to remember their childbirth experience positively and have increased confidence in their body and innate strength. Mothers also benefit from increased emotional well-being before, during, and after birth, with reduced stress, anxiety, fear, and doubt.

  • Anyone can hire and benefit from doula support. The word doula represents a profession, NOT a philosophy. A doula will work with each family’s individual needs and views surrounding birth and adjust care techniques accordingly. Of course, this may vary depending on the doula.

  • No. Partners have an irreplaceable role during labor and birth. Your partner knows you better than anyone else and their love and support cannot be replaced. Doulas offer support alongside partners, as well as support for partners. Doulas help educate partners about birth, give suggestions about how to participate and provide support.

  • No. Doulas and midwifes are entirely different professionals, even though both support the childbirth experience. 

    Doulas focus on the needs of the mother and partner offering physical, emotional, informational support, and advocacy.

    Midwives have medical training and focus on delivering a healthy baby. 

  • No. A doula is not a medical professional and is not trained in medical procedures.

    A doula offers continuous physical, emotional, and informational support, and advocacy.

  • Some, but not all, insurance companies will cover the cost of a doula. It is best to check with your insurance provider.
