Birth Support
“Birth is an opportunity to transcend. To rise above what we are accustomed to, reach deeper inside ourselves than we are familiar with, and to see not only what we are truly made of, but the strength we can access in and through birth."

4 Prenatal Meetings with Alana (1 - 2 hours)
Prenatal 1 (in-person) : In this meeting we will get to know each other better by having an explorative and nonjudgemental conversation about birth, your vision for your own birth, your fears or concerns, your mind/body connection, and how I can be most helpful and supportive as your doula.
We will also go over stretches and Spinning Babies techniques to help you connect to your body and baby, prepare your body for birth, and encourage your baby to move into an optimal position for labor.
Prenatal 2 (in-person) : This meeting is all about BIRTH. We will be discussing the physiological process of birth, hormones and nervous systems, how to best support your body, and hands on comfort techniques
Prenatal 3 (virtual) : This meeting is a dive into the medical side of birth. We will be discussing your options for medical pain management, interventions, how to navigate forks in the road and the hospital system, informed consent, and how to find your voice and be an active participate during your labor.
Prenatal 4 (virtual) : In this meeting, we will be discussing immediate postpartum in the hospital and postpartum in your home. Some topics include how to transition into the 4th trimester, postpartum recovery, tips for the first few weeks with a newborn, caring for a newborn, and plans for support.
1 Prenatal Meeting with an IBCLC
This prenatal meeting is courtesy of my dear friend who is an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). This hour-long prenatal meeting will take place in her office in Berkeley and will cover topics such as: latching, positioning, how to encourage milk supply, how to know your baby is getting enough, and more. She is also available for additional in-home postpartum lactation support (cost may be covered if your insurance qualifies).
Continuous Labor and Birth Support
We will be in contact when you suspect your labor has begun. I will support you over the phone, by answering any questions and making suggestions, and will join you in person, either at your home or in the hospital, when you decide. In person, I will support you by using a variety of techniques discussed in our prenatal meetings. Once I join you, I will stay with you until your baby is born.
Immediate Postpartum Support 2 Hours
I will stay by your side during the “golden hour” and until your are transferred to your postpartum room.
1 Postpartum Visit (in-person)
During this visit we will check in about how you are feeling, recovering, and adjusting to life with a new baby. Additionally, we can review your birth and discuss any questions you might have, I can help with breastfeeding (latching and positions), answer questions about your baby, sleeping, your recovery and more.
